where f(x) represents the distributed transverse load applied to it, and φ represents the prescribed transverse displacement at the boundary. In this note we wish to investigate the inverse problem of determining the plane traction state tensor σ from boundary measurements on displacements and on the corresponding forces. As an initial attempt, since the external load f has no influence on the pretraction state σ, and in analogy with many other well-known inverse boundary problems, see for instance [2, 8, 15], it seems natural to treat the case when f = 0 in (1.3), and consider as available data an arbitrary transverse displacement φ on the boundary and the corresponding transverse load on the boundary, namely the reaction of the boundary constraints

Detecting an Inclusion in an Elastic Body by Boundary Measurements
We consider the problem of determining an inclusion D made of di erent elastic material in an elastic isotropic body from boundary measurements of traction and displacement. We prove that the volume of D can be estimated, from above and below, by an easily expressed quantity related to work, only depending on the boundary traction and displacement.
متن کاملThermoelastic Fracture Parameters for Anisotropic Plates
This paper deals with the determination of the effect of varying material properties on the value of the stress intensity factors, KI and KII, for anisotropic plates containing cracks and subjected to a temperature change. Problems involving cracks and body forces, as well as thermal loads are analysed. The quadratic isoperimetric element formulation is utilized, and SIFs may be directly obtain...
متن کاملStable determination of an inclusion in an inhomogeneous elastic body by boundary measurements
In this paper we consider the stability issue for the inverse problem of determining an unknown inclusion contained in an elastic body by all the pairs of measurements of displacement and traction taken at the boundary of the body. Both the body and the inclusion are made by inhomogeneous linearly elastic isotropic material. Under mild a priori assumptions about the smoothness of the inclusion ...
متن کاملSaint-Venant torsion of non-homogeneous anisotropic bars
The BEM is applied to the solution of the torsion problem of non-homogeneous anisotropic non-circular prismatic bars. The problem is formulated in terms of the warping function. This formulation leads to a second order partial differential equation with variable coefficients, subjected to a generalized Neumann type boundary condition. The problem is solved using the Analog Equation Method (AEM)...
